Katie’s Place for Persons with Special Needs is a Day Support Program licensed by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and is managed by St. Vincents Home. Katie's Place is a non-profit in the State of Virginia. The mission is to serve adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in the Roanoke valley. Katie’s place provides opportunities to learn and develop social skills and daily living skills through gardening, cooking, volunteering, community outings, and marketing the crafts that are made in the program.
Katie's Place participants volunteer with other non-profits and area agencies who have volunteer work to be completed. The participants now volunteer at the YMCA cleaning and other tasks, as requested. In exchange, Katie's Place participants enjoy swimming, playing basketball, and other gym activities at the Y.
We focus on all life areas including laundry, cleaning, household maintenance, and money management. We also concentrate on personal activities of daily living, such as hygiene, grooming, health and wellness, as well as toileting. Katie's Place participants grocery shop, exchange money, sort items, and cook.
